Like a n00b again
Been about two weeks in and I still feel like a n00b teacher. But at least I am more prepared and ready to deal with most things. Being the new science department head has it perks... I can go on a shopping spree to stock up the science lab. Just the other day I prepared a practical class already to go and I suddenly realized that I was missing ammeters. We got tons of voltmeters and multimeters, but with our ancient wires, multimeters ain't no good.
So here I am getting the kids to summarize and write up the method (poor kids) and they find out that they can't do the practical.
They were good about it, but I think they were more happy because they get to do nothing.
I did a check after school and I find out we got tons of useless meters and the only surviving ammeters were barely usable. So I threw them out. Final count, we got 2 giant demonstrator Ammeter and Voltmeters and about 8 normal Voltmeter. We also had a few multimeters, but I think batteries in those things were running its last leg.
Now usually I would go and kick up the fuss with the Science department, then I suddenly realized, I AM the department.... hehehe.... world domination here I come... muahahahahahaha....
So I spent my double free happily looking through catalogues trying to find cheap equipment. And while doing that, I was ordering and buying teaching resources - I think I've spend about $300-500 worth of trial exams, past papers, CD resources, and science book resources in the last week.
Looks like the next electronic purchase will be about another $1000 or more. I'm going to put in an order for a high voltage power supply... Muahahaha.... don't know what I'm going to do with it, but apparently the chemistry teacher wants one. I want one too, because it can go more than the wimpy 12V student power box.
I hope I don't go crazy and spend all of the money on useless stuff.... hahaha.... I can see a large scale model of a hydrogen fuel cell taking up space in the prep room.... 'But it is sooooo cool!'
