Trigonometric Treasure Hunt

Just sent my General Maths kids off on a "Treasure Hunt".

We've just covered the topics of compass/true bearings and trigonometric ratios. Basically, the class split up into groups and using an orienteering compass they go hunt for clues/checkpoints that I've placed around school.

Each checkpoints have a compass or true bearings in a plastic pocket with a piece of a puzzle. They are to collect the puzzle pieces, put it together and solve the homework problems.

The fastest group wins.

Watching them go all around the place makes me laugh. Even though they are in year 11, their youthful innocence and bright potential shines brightly before me.

This is why I'm a teacher.
