New Toy

I got myself a new laptop. In fact, I'm blogging this entry with said laptop. It's an Acer Travelmate 2413, 256mb Ram, 1.5 Ghz Intel Celeron (370), 60 Gb HDD, wireless enabled with lots of other ports, CDRW/DVD combo drive. Not bad for AUD$999... well, it's actually AUD$1099 (the extra $99 or so is the 10% GST).

Why did I get it? Well, it was actually suppose to come from China; my parent's there got me one and promised it to get it to me. However, when my father's own laptop fell into the sea (yes, you didn't read it wrong, his own laptop fell off the boat into the sea) he took my laptop and it became his own. So now my parent's decided to get me to find my own laptop here that would suit me.

I was looking for a budget laptop, but I didn't want one that was refurbished or 2nd hand. Then I started reading about laptops that were sub $1000 and have seen advertising from Officeworks and Harvey Norman about laptops being $950 or so. Shopped around a bit and found the laptop advertised directly on the www.shopacer.com.au website to have a laptop that has more value per money (compared to other laptops on sale with similar specification).

The main reason that I wanted to have a laptop is so that when I start working as a teacher, I'll already have my ICT tool. I know that there are government laptop for hire program for teachers here, but nothing beats a laptop that belongs to yourself. But since I'm only at uni, I'll only be using this laptop for research work, writing up assignments and whatever use I can squeeze out of it.

And oh yes, I musn't forget, this is a kosen-rufu laptop!!! It'll be the main VCT PC laptop... the laptop that will be setup to the projector all the time in major SGI state/region meetings.

However, I must admit that there are side benefits for me. Just today I watched an anime episode @ uni!! Amazing!! Now I can have some entertainment on campus!! I could listen to music on my headphones while surfing through the uni wireless connection also!!!

Well, it's great fun and I'm sure this tool will be handy for me... I'm a happy man today.

The only complaint, is the size of this thing. It's far from 'portable'... I mean, it has a 15.4" TFT screeen!! (Widescreen ^.^) It has to be about 3 kg in total weight (including the power adaptor) and it barely fits into my Fitness First backpack. But luckily, my lecture notes don't weigh a thing... I don't even have a textbook for my DipEd course ^.^

I'm looking at my laptop screen with loving eyes and caressing the soft keyboard... my dear laptop, I love you so much!!! (Well, of course, you're second to my girlfriend!!)
