Dog-a-thon
Today was an interesting day with dogs!
I went to a "Dog-a-thon" event with one of my sister's dog name Pierro, a Labador Retriever. It was a pirate-theme day so we dressed him up for the day and also run a 2km course (see below; click on image for enlarged version). The race course wasn't too bad, mostly paved pathways for easy running/jogging/walking and a few obstacle courses along the way.
We were mainly there because my sister always have a space there to sell doggy products and to promote her Mamadog business (check it out at http://www.mamadog.tk) . This time round however, she couldn't attend, only her husband could, because she had to be home to look after the boarded dogs.
Anyways, we were there early around 6:30pm to set up shop. Doesn't take long because we were only selling harnesses and leashes mainly... with some other random accessories. I took Pierro for a walk around and he was quite excited and happy for this little adventure.
The race started around 8:30am and the start was messy, noisy and chaotic. It's like a F1 race with cars in various mishaps within the first 5 seconds. The markers the lined the track were bowled over and trampled as the dogs and dog owners ran chaotically everywhere. One dog-human pair ran through a wooden sign and knocking it flat, and proceeding as if they hadn't hit anything.
Pierro on the other hand was happily doing his dog thing of sniffing other doggies. His race consist of racing from dog to dog for the first 1 km. After that, my lungs gave out from trying to catch up with him at full speed most of the way. For the remaining 1km, Pierro was more like dragging my ass to the finish line. But I did put in a pathetic jog in the last 50 meters. ^.^;
For his effort, Pierro got a certificate of completion and a big bowl of breakfast and doggy treats! Hehehe... dogs are such great animals... easy to praise and please.
I was panting like a dog (pun intended) after the race. Severely dehydrated I could only sit down in the tent. Pierro on the other hand... was being as doggy as can doggy be... all happy smiles with his tongue hanging out.
I helped out at the tent/store/space with my brother-in-law a bit... selling Pet Insurances (first in Malaysia!! Contact Mamadog for more details), harnesses, and leashes. Pierro was tied up at the front enjoying the scenery and greeting the customers and their dogs, giving them a friendly welcome and making new friends!
By 12pm we were all pooped-out and decided to pack up and leave (partly because my bro-in-law had an appointment). Pierro, as a parting gift, gave a little dump on the event grounds.
Enjoy the pictures of the day; again click on image for enlarged version.
